September 24 2010 Blog Hop and Follow Friday

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer at Crazy-For-Books.

About the Hop: In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word! This weekly BOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs to read!

This weeks question is: When you write reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you have read the entire book?

I will flag things that strike me while I'm reading the book, but I generally start actually writing the review when I finish the book. Mostly I'll finish it right away, but then I let it sit a couple of days and re-read the review to make sure I've covered everything I wanted to, and that nothing new popped out at me while my brain was stewing over it. And sometimes that does happen and I end up editing before putting it out there.

Follow Friday is hosted at Parajunkee's View.

Her question this week is: What is your high fashion book? --- translation --- best book cover ever.

Um. Hmm. Well, I can't pick just one. Surprising, I know. I did a post not long ago on some covers that I really like. So I tried to pick some different ones. In no particular order.

The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus Trilogy 1) by Jonathan Stroud
Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer 1) by Karen Chance
Archangel's Kiss (Guild Hunters 2) by Nalini Singh
Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie
Faefever (Fever 3) by Karen Marie Moning
Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson 5) by Patricia Briggs
The Mage's Daughter (Nine Kingdoms 2) by Lynn Kurland

A Matter of Magic by Patricia C. Wrede

So those are just some of my picks. What's your favorite cover?

And, because while I love YA, I also love UF, Paranormal, Romance and Erotica.

The 18 & Over Blog Hop is hosted by Laurie at Bitten by Paranormal Romance

Some new stuff this week:

Waiting on Wednesday: Shadowfever
Amazon Free eBooks 9
Review: Run For Your Life by Andrea Kane

Coming up:
I'll be updating all the reading orders (again) with upcoming release information.
Also, a review of Demon From the Dark by Kresley Cole. Book 10 in her Immortals After Dark series.

Question for you stopping by: What's your favorite book so far this year?

I <3 all Mercy Thompson covers minus the fact that all her tattoos change. wtf is up with that? Mercy only has one tattoo according to the books...hmmm

Happy Hop! I wait until the end before I write the review and use all the notes I kept on insights I had. Have a fun weekend!

HOP by and visit

@Straylights - I'm not sure what's up with the changing tattoos! I've wondered too, but I still think they're some of the best done covers.

Oh yay! Someone who actually posted the covers, I'm finding it's about 50/50 so far on people actually answering this weeks question!

Question for you stopping by: What's your favorite book so far this year?

I totally love the Dark Swan series by Richelle Mead so I will stick to that. I have read 50+ books this year alone so don't think I could pin it down to just one book.

I'm a new follower, if you get a chance to stop by my blog that would be great.

@Heather: I'm heading to your blog next. :) I love covers, so I wanted to be sure to share what I thought were some great ones! I've noticed not a lot of people (so far) are posting them either though :(

@Tanya: Thanks! I was so glad to find the 18 & Over Hop :)

@gautami: Welcome! I'll be hopping your way

@Chazz: That one is also on my list! LOL. I think my TBR is a little out of control.

Following up on straylights' comment I would have to say that those are great covers I think Silver Borne has the best of those. There are some I don't like at all. And the Rachel Morgan covers are great too. Shiver and Linger are pretty great though. And Meg Cabot's Insatiable.

What has been bugging me lately is that there are two themes running about on covers: a wisp of smoke, or something that looks like the red ribbon in Eclipse.

@Ragan: I'm looking forward to reading The Darkest Hour. Just waiting for payday to get it LOL

@Chrissie: I hope you like the reviews, and find some new books because of them :)

@Steph: I do agree that there seems to be commonalities with covers, but this is something that's always happened, IMO. Publishers find something that works and stick with it until it runs into the ground, then they move onto the next thing! Although I gotta say that the covers that attempt to mimic Twilight will get an automatic pass from me.

@Raven: Another one on my TBR, well the first one in the Kitty Norville series anyways! I'm so glad to hear that I've apparently got a lot of books in my TBR that are damn good reads :D

@Jennifer: Touch the Dark is actually the one book (out of those that I posted) that I picked up solely because of the cover. Never read the author before, and was willing to give it a chance because of that awesome cover.

I really need to get started on the Mercy Thomponsons, as soon as I finish the Meljean Brook series I currently have in my TBR. I'm glad to see it made your top list, one I can most definitely trust. Nalini and Karen are no surprise to me as well. Great choices. I am not sure I can quite figure out what would go on my list.

PS: I also wondered about the changing tattoos, I always assumed it was some kind of gift or mark, I guess I stand corrected.

Angela said...

@Nicole - The Mercy Thompson series is one I enjoy :) I just like the covers, even if they aren't accurate to her tattoos LOL
